Canada has yet another bitcoin-related achievement to display in their trophy cabinet.
The CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) Kitchener-Waterloo radio station is believed to be the first public radio station to transmit bitcoin over radio waves.
It happened during The Morning Edition radio broadcast when a series of beeps were played. Listeners were prompted to download an app called Chirp.io to decipher the beeps. The prize? A small amount of about 0.05 BTC, or about $40 (donated by Tinkercoin and a ‘local bitcoin enthusiat’, according to the CBC).
In the end, the winner of the prize was Chris Skory of Rockland County, New York.
“I did not think that I was going to get it at all,” he said to CBC. “I figured there was going to be some pretty stiff competition out there.”
