Civic engagement organization OpenMedia has announced that they are now accepting bitcoin donations to further help fund their mission of keeping the internet open and affordable.
The organization says that the decision to accept the digital currency stems from popular demand:
“As more and more people get involved in Bitcoin, OpenMedia has been getting more and more requests to accept donations in this currency,” reads a part of the announcement.
As an internet-related organization, it’s interesting to see OpenMedia’s enthusiasm:
“We’re excited by the decentralized, open-sourced potential of this online currency, and will be closely following developments in the Bitcoin economy and community.”
OpenMedia says they will be doing their best to support the bitcoin community by shopping at bitcoin businesses, but warn they may have to convert some to CAD to cover other expenses.
At the time of this writing, 19 transactions have take place to OpenMedia’s donation address for a total of 0.81921461 BTC (or about $655). (via Reddit)
