Londoner Seeks to Trademark Bitcoin

An East London man, Marvin Dennis, is seeking to trademark the word bitcoin in the United Kingdom. That’s according to an application submitted to the United Kingdom Intellectual Property Office dated November 5th, 2013.

Interestingly, the application has this listed as “Class 30” or “Chocolates, confectionary.”

We’ll let you be the judge and decide just how bitcoin and chocolates go together. But it shouldn’t affect the use of the word in technology, should it be approved. Assuming this application goes unopposed, the mark is slated to be granted on February 6th, 2014.

The trademark application was submitted on behalf of Dennis by the Trade Marks Bureau. (via CoinDeskvia IPO.GOV.UK)
