Very shortly following the closing of the Silk Road bitcoin drug marketplace, another sprouted up — aptly named Silk Road 2.0. The second iteration was, for the most part, a copy of the first, but with added security measures.
Now, reports are circulating that several involved with Silk Road 2.0 have been apprehended by law enforcement and are in custody. One of them, (Gary Davis) nicknamed Libertas, was based in Ireland, and was arrested by the Garda Siochana (Irish Police).
Another, Michael Jones (nicknamed Inigo), was arrested by the FBI in the state of Virginia. Peter Phillip Nash (nicknamed Samesamebutdifferent) has also been taken into custody.
TechCrunch reports that an Irish police source says Libertas “was arrested last night in connection with the new Silk Road” and has been charges under the Criminal Mutual Assistance Act of 2008.
The US Manhattan Attorney General has announced these arrests.
