The folks over at BitPay aren’t kidding around when it comes to the security of their users. The digital currency payment processor today vehemently dismissed rumors that their service was somehow hacked — putting user funds at risk.
A Twitter user by the handle @petertwynn posted the following text on Saturday: “Attention everyone– bit pay been hacked!! Any money from them is being stolen right now.”
As you can imagine, the tweet set off a bit of a panic — but not surprisingly, it just wasn’t true.
“This is completely fake. All BitPay systems are secure and nothing is wrong,” the company wrote on a blog post, quickly firing back at the rumor.
The company is prepared to hit anyone full-force with legal action who intentionally spreads misleading or untrue information, and for a good reason. One of BitPay’s many selling points is that they aren’t lax with security. Rumors suggesting otherwise could portray a false image — the last thing any business needs.
As for the twitter user who posted the tweet, it has since been removed, along with a majority of his other tweets.
