Two downtown Las Vegas casino properties are slated to begin accepting bitcoin in the coming days, according to a press release.
“I’m proud that the D and Golden Gate will be the first casino properties to accept Bitcoin,” said Derek Stevens, co-owner and CEO of the two properties. “We’re located in the growing high-tech sector of downtown Las Vegas, and like all things downtown, we’re quickly adaptive to new technology. The timing is right for us to launch this initiative, and I’m happy to be able to offer this to our customers.”
Bitcoins can be spent at five locations on the two properties, which includes the front desks, the D’s gift shop, and eateries like American Coney Island and Joe Vicari’s Andiamo Italian Steakhouse.
It’s coming together with a partnership with digital payments processor BitPay. Each register at the two Casinos will be equipped with a tablet to facilitate the bitcoin transactions.
The move comes following some patrons asking Stevens if his properties accepted the digital currency — so consumer demand is a big factor here.
