Ross Ulbricht Formally Indicted on Drug, Money-Laundering Charges

Magnifying Glass ClipThe alleged leader of the former Silk Road online drug marketplace Ross Ulbricht (also known as D.P.R., Dread Pirate Roberts) has been formally indicted on charges relating to drugs, money-laundering, and a charge of running “criminal enterprise”.

If convicted, Ulbricht faces a minimum of 30 years in prison, and maximum sentence of life in prison.

Defense attorney Joshua Dratel will be representing Mr. Ulbricht in attempt to prove that he is not the alleged ringleader of the Silk Road operation — closed down in late 2013.

“Ross will be pleading not guilty at the arraignment. The Indictment was expected and does not contain any new factual allegations. We look forward to beginning the discovery process and preparing Ross’s defense,” said Dratel in a statement to Forbes.

Certainly, it will be interesting to see how this plays out. In the meantime, a new Silk Road exists with reportedly over 12,000 products available for purchase, according to Forbes.
