A Robocoin bitcoin ATM is slated to hit the streets of Seoul, South Korea in the next few days. Operated by venture company BitcoinAsia, the machine is expected to arrive in the country by Friday, if things go according to plan.
The ATM will bill undergo a government regulation certification process before it can officially be launched for public use.
“We are excited to introduce the Bitcoin ATM to the most tech-savvy market in the world. Bitcoin is attracting public attention in Korea, and we want to take the Bitcoin awareness in Korea to the next level by adding a simple way to purchase and sell Bitcoin,” said BitcoinAsia VP Jewoo Yeom.
BitcoinAsia says they have ordered a total of three units so far, with the other two units expected to be placed in Seoul locations at a later date.
While an exact launch date for the ATM isn’t yet available, if it is installed relatively soon, it could beat the impending bitcoin ATM launch in Hong Kong — making it the first bitcoin ATM in Asia.
BitcoinAsia was formed as a subsidiary of Liveplex Co., Ltd., a KOSDAQ-listed online and mobile game developer.
