Updated: Blockchain has announced service has been restored.
Having some trouble reaching Blockchain.info today? You are most certainly not alone.
Scores of users are having issues reaching the website this afternoon — making the web’s most popular bitcoin website nothing more than a closed door.
The issues, according to Blockchain, involve a database issue.
Wrote the company on their official Twitter account in the last hour:
Users: We’re currently investigating a database issue, which has resulted in downtime. We will keep you updated as we learn more.
As one would expect, it’s far too soon to say just what has gone wrong, but if Blockchain is following in their own footsteps (with regard to similar issues that have happened in the past), a full explanation will be provided just as soon as it’s available.
The most recent instance of performance issues at Blockchain took place at the end of April.
On the 21st, it was reported the service was being hit by DDOS (distributed denial of service) attacks that were overwhelming the company’s servers.
For those looking to follow up, you can keep track of the situation at the Blockchain blog, located at blog.blockchain.com.
As is normally the case, we’ll update this article accordingly as more information becomes available.
