In mid-April, Blockchain.info made a five year deal to exclusively manage the revered bitcoin.com domain name. Shortly thereafter, the website featured three links: one to the Blockchain.info block explorer, another to ZeroBlock (which Blockchain acquired), and another for the Blockchain web wallet.
Many in the community had thought the company had blown the opportunity to use the domain for good, using it instead to promote their own products.
Now, it seems the direction of the website has changed, serving as a portal of sorts to newcomers looking to explore bitcoin for the first time.
It’s with great excitement that we unveil the new Bitcoin.com, a user-friendly resource that shows how to acquire, store and spend your bitcoins. The more bitcoin grows, the more resources like this are essential for its ecosystem to flourish. If you’re looking to introduce a friend or family member to bitcoin, this is a great starting point.
Front and center on the website is an introductory video from WeUseCoins.com, along with explanations on where to buy bitcoins, how to accept the digital currency, and suggestions on where to spend them as well.
In all, it’s a pretty useful resource, especially for the person who’s looking to learn more about bitcoin, but is so overwhelmed with information on how to get started.
