Last week we published a post with regard to Roger Ver’s latest campaign. Ver, as you know, is well known in the community and is an bitcoin evangelist.
At the time of the publishing of our article, the tweet had received 214 retweets. Fast forward to today, and we’re seeing an amazing 16,716 retweets. That’s over $167,000 toward Ulbricht’s legal defense. That’s not a bad number when you consider that Ulbricht’s family had set up an initial goal of $100,000 (which was last update at over $89,000 raised before this impromptu one-man fundraiser took place).
At the current exchange rate, that’s over 260 bitcoins, though it hasn’t been made clear as to whether or not the funds will be donated to the Ulbrichts in the form of digital currency.
Ross Ulbricht is currently in jail awaiting a November 3rd trial. He is accused of running Silk Road, an illicit online drug marketplace that allowed users to easily purchase all kinds of drugs, weapons, and more using bitcoin.
Thousands of bitcoins were confiscated from the Silk Road operation, a small segment of which was auctioned off last week.
Ulbricht has pleaded not guilty on the charges against him.
