This may be of interest to our friends in the New York City area. I received a press release by email yesterday from the Bitcoin Center NYC regarding an interesting appearance at the Center next week.
On Thursday, July 31st, Ms. Perianne M. Boring will be the host speaker prior to the Center’s frequent ‘Satoshi Square’ event that takes place on a weekly basis.
Boring made headlines in the community recently with the formation of a little something called the Digital Chamber of Commerce. Announced at the North American Bitcoin Conference in the Chicago last week, the non-profit organization aims to further legitimize bitcoin on a number of fronts.
The Digital Chamber of Commerce’s 501(c)(6) status will allow it to serve as a lobbying organization. And since the organization is based in Washington, D.C., it all seems to come together nicely.
The Digital Chamber of Congress recently called upon the bitcoin community to submit comments to the New York Department of Financial Services regarding a recently-released proposal for bitcoin regulations, including a so-called ‘BitLicense’.
Ms. Boring took issue with the short, 45-day public commenting period, going so far as to call it “egregious” and “severely inadequate” — a point many in the community have agreed with.
Boring’s presentation at the Center will commence at 7 pm local time.
The Bitcoin Center NYC is located in the heart of Manhattan’s financial district, situated just about one hundred feet from the New York Stock Exchange.
