There’s been a lot of chatter lately regarding DISH Network’s move into the bitcoin space, and it has finally happened.
The Colorado-based company announced today that they have commenced their bitcoin acceptance program, allowing customers to pay their monthly bill with the emerging digital currency.
The first customers to make payments using bitcoin were Austin and Beccy Craig, who are the stars of an upcoming documentary, Life on Bitcoin. It’s unclear when the documentary will be released, but a video of the couple making their bitcoin payment was released today.

“DISH is a leading example of how the world is becoming friendlier with new ways of buying products and services,” said Austin Craig. “When we shot our film last year, we struggled to watch TV or go to a movie paying with bitcoin. Now, a leader in TV technology is embracing this bitcoin movement from a tech-savvy crowd.”
Bernie Han, Executive Vice President and and Chief Operation Officer added, “DISH is now accepting bitcoin because we are listening to customers and providing them with the choice and convenience they want.”
He continues, “When we announced that DISH customers could pay with bitcoin, we heard some enthusiastic feedback from bitcoin users. Starting today, they can choose bitcoin as a payment option for their monthly bill.”
DISH Network, as mentioned in their May announcement, will be partnering up with San Francisco-based Coinbase to make the acceptance happen.
DISH has said they will be converting their bitcoin revenue instantly to United States dollars.
The company is the largest company in the world to accept the digital currency, with over 14 million television subscribers.
