In a Wednesday morning announcement, electronics retail outfit TigerDirect announced that bitcoin payments processor BitPay has signed on to participate at the TigerDirect Tech Bash along with the TigerDirect IT Conference & Expo dubbed Innovation. The event takes place at the Miami Marlins Park on November 7th from 8am-5pm.
Wrote TigerDirect in their announcement:
[blockquote style=”2″] TigerDirect and BitPay are taking things to the next level and changing the way consumers use technology to shop. Marlins Park will be a hub for all things tech, with companies utilizing the attention to announce new products, test innovative features, and make a splash in shifting the overall perception of how we interact with technology.[/blockquote]
BitPay will be sponsoring a 500-square-foot ‘Bitcoin Pavilion’ that will be featuring what’s described as a variety of bitcoin-related companies that have “consumer-facing products.”
[blockquote style=”2″]In an effort to focus on consumer platforms, BitPay has invited companies that offer mining hardware, cloud mining subscriptions, education materials, an iOS bitcoin wallet, an exchange and a Bitcoin ATM to showcase their products. Guests will be allowed to purchase bitcoin and use it at TigerDirect pop-up shops throughout the venue.[/blockquote]
The idea will be to get bitcoin users — new and seasoned — to use their bitcoin with brand names they trust, and in a convenient manner.
Bitcoin accomodations promotion
Interestingly enough, the announcement also added that both TigerDirect and BitPay have signed on the Essex House and The Clevelander hotels to be serving as ‘Premier Bitcoin Hotel Partners’ for the even, allowing visitors to pay for their stays at a discount using the digital currency(using the promotional code: TIGER).
Increased community involvement
BitPay has, as of late, become involved with a number of events in the Southeast corner of the United States. Aside from this most recent news, BitPay has also signed on as a three-year sponsor of the St. Petersburg Bowl (aptly renamed the Bitcoin Bowl), and is the sponsor of Georgia Tech’s athletic programs.
BitPay is the bitcoin payment processor in use by TigerDirect.com.

Hi Eric,
Thank you for the article, however you have misquoted the fact that Clevelander and Essex House will only be accepting Bitcoin during the weekend. Both hotels will continue to accept Bitcoin as a form of payment for Food+Beverage and Hotel Room charges after the Tiger Direct Tech Bash Weekend.
It is the ‘tiger’ room code that offers a discounted rate on the booking of a hotel room that will be discounted after the weekend.
To clarify Clevelander and Essex House began accepting Bitcoin as a form of payment as of November 2013 and will continue to do so until otherwise stated.
