Barry Silbert Introduces the Digital Currency Group

Barry Silbert, Founder of SecondMarket, the Bitcoin Investment Trust, and the Bitcoin Opportunity Corp. seed fund announced today that he’s about ready to separate his bitcoin-related businesses from SecondMarket — an illiquid access marketplace.

The name? Aptly called the Digital Currency Group, and if you check out their website right now, you won’t come across a whole lot of information at the moment.

Silbert has been immensely interested in bitcoin and digital currency over the past year. Back in July of this year, it was announced that he would be stepping down from his role as CEO at SecondMarket to focus exclusively on his bitcoin projects.

He issued the following statement at the time:

[blockquote style=”2″]I have chosen to move on from day-to-day management of the private company/fund business so that I can focus 100% of my energy on our digital currency business. My passion for bitcoin is no secret and I feel it is the right time to make this transition. Our intention is to formally separate the two business lines at the appropriate point in time. In the meantime, I will remain Chairman and CEO of our parent holding company.[/blockquote]

Today, we know that the Digital Currency Group is where it all comes together.
