Bitcoin Foundation Delivers Update on Corporate Governance

Avatar newsbtc 5 years ago

With board elections just around the corner in January 2015, the Bitcoin Foundation is gearing up for the cycle with some new ideas when it comes to electing individuals who are a great fit for a seat on the board.

Interestingly, this next election will be making use of a cryptographic voting system, but that’s not all. The Bitcoin Foundation says they are considering forming a member-led nomination committee.

Bitcoin Foundation Logo Blue“It is my sincere hope that the nominating committee can gather and organize input from the membership on what the ideal candidate characteristics would be for the open Individual seat and help identify such individuals for nomination,” says Brian Goss, Chairman of the Elections Committee at the Foundation.

The Bitcoin Foundation is actively seeking folks to volunteer their time to service on the committee or as its chairperson.

Come December 2014, two seats on the Bitcoin Foundation board will become eligible for newly-elected individuals. They are held by Peter Vessenes, who’s in the founding seat and Gavin Andresen in an individual seat.

Even if Mr. Andresen decides to not run for reelection, he will remain the Chief Scientist at the foundation.

The Bitcoin Foundation board was initially founded by unelected volunteers. From that point, elections have been held by members of the organization, as noted in their bylaws.
