Bitcoin Foundation Elections ballot boxes are opening this 13th of February and close on the 19th of February.

The Bitcoin Foundation, founded in 2012, has come a long way. The Bitcoin Foundation election is just around the corner. The election polls are open from the 13th of February and stay open until the 19th of February. This Bitcoin Foundation election is being held to elect two Directors, along with other board members of the Foundation.

Yes, this is serious matter and an important one for all – Bitcoin enthusiasts and critics alike.

Who Are The Bitcoin Foundation Election Nominees?

The nominee list below has been sorted in alphabetical order. It is from this current set of nominations that the two directors will be elected, to replace Jon Matonis (resigned effective from December 31, 2014) and Gavin Andresen (term is coming to a close). The nominee list below is linked to each individual’s profile page on the Internet, to help you make an informed decision.

Who Can Vote? You Can. But…

Bitcoin Foundation, being a ‘foundation’ is supported by the community of members, volunteers and donors. To be able to vote in the Bitcoin Foundation Elections the voter must first be a member of the Bitcoin Foundation community. Currently there are two membership options available for individuals — $25 Annual membership or $250 Lifetime membership.

It is a prerequisite to be a member to be able to vote for and nominate candidates.

What Are The Responsibilities Of The Board Members?

In the Bitcoin Foundation’s own words, the role of the Board of Directors is three-fold [sic]:

1. The board should hire the leadership team, support the leadership team and, if necessary, fire the leadership team.

2. The board should review goals and financials to ensure that the leadership team is performing in-line with the Foundation’s mission.

3. The board should leverage their network and contacts to fundraise and make sure the organisation is properly resources and create opportunities for high-level strategic partnerships.

What Does The Bitcoin Foundation Do?

A few days ago at NewsBTC, we titled an article Bitcoin Foundation Changes Focus, Acts Like A Startup. All these elections, amendments to voting rules, re-alignments of strategic focus, just reiterate the fact that Bitcoin Foundation is indeed acting like a startup. Which is extremely good news. They’re changing for the better, some would argue.

The Bitcoin Foundation, as a non-profit organisation, provides for some funding of the development and infrastructure of Bitcoin. The Bitcoin Foundation has been influential in representing and promoting Bitcoin — at the conferences and with the Governments. And at times also standing in as the punching bag for the criticisms that Bitcoin misusers attract to the entire Bitcoin community.
