Here is a small exercise for all our readers. Make a list of things that come to your mind when I say ‘Deep Web’. Hope you have made a mental list of all the things that came to your mind. Now, let me take the liberty to note down all the things that you might have associated with deep web.
2. Silk Road
4. Ross Ulbricht
6. Hackers for hire
9. Fake IDs
10. Guns for hire
Guess I have got most of them right except for the last one. Yes, it is cookies. Not hash cookies or space cookies or the cookies that track your internet activity, I meant good old baked cookies which even kids can eat (No, I haven’t been smoking anything). Cybertwee, the female artist trio from Chicago are soon organizing a cookie sale on the deep web where one can buy good ol’cookies with bitcoin and have it with milk or just gobble them up.
Artists Gabriella Hileman, May Waver and Violet Forest forming the collective called Cybertwee have set out to create awareness about deep web, benefits of encryption and more by organizing this cookie sale on deep web. They also had a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for the sale a few weeks ago where they raised more than thrice the amount they originally pledged for.
Cybertwee mentions on their Kickstarter campaign page that it is only the beginning and there are more Kickstarter campaigns coming our way soon. They have also included the recipe on the page so that people know what to expect from the cookies they might buy from them during their deep web cookie sale scheduled to happen next Friday (Yes, you can buy harmless cookies on Friday the thirteenth over the deep web. Isn’t it scary enough?).
As the D-day approaches, Cybertwee’s initiative has started to gain a lot of attention. Their interview was featured a couple of days ago on Coincafe’s blog as well.
It doesn’t matter what they have on their minds, but this cookie sale exercise is definitely going to change the way people perceive deep web. Deep web is not all dangerous, you can explore and maybe in the coming days we can all visit the deep web without fearing the FBI or some other agency with a three letter acronym keeping tabs on us and buy some groceries.
