The Electronic Signature and Records Association (ESRA) recently organized a conference in New York, marking the 15th anniversary of the Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce (ESIGN) Act.

The meetings are organized to discuss and evaluate the best practices and trends for eSignatures and digital records. The agenda includes regulatory updates, international insights, technological trends and public policy updates. Digital records and eSignatures are measures intended to prevent theft, tampering and fraud. DocuSign is one leading company providing this service.

According to the press release, members discussed what the future of eSignatures and records holds. The conference—attended by leading financial institutions such as Bank of America, USAA, Wells Fargo, Level One Bank et al—also discussed the latest in Bitcoin and digital identity management around the blockchain. It has been widely stipulated that Bitcoin technology can be used to safely store public data; Honduras is even building a land title registry using the blockchain.

Jeff Knott, Chairman of ESRA and assistant Vice President at Equifax, said:

In addition to the networking opportunities and knowledge sharing with industry peers, this is one of the most informative conferences available, that offers a wealth of information on electronic records and signatures and their role in the future evolution of business interactions. When you leave our conference, you are inspired to incorporate the knowledge gained in your continued efforts to improve processes and introduce new initiatives within your company.

As Bitcoin and the blockchain technology continue to garner strong attention from financial institutions globally, it can be safely assumed that the Winter Member Meeting will see more coverage being given to the disruptive technology. The meeting is scheduled for February 24 in San Jose, California.
