Mediachain uses Bitcoin Technology For Universal Media Library

Avatar newsbtc 4 years ago

Mediachain is a new company looking to revolutionize the way we think about registering and tracking creative works. By using blockchain technology, the Brooklyn-based company wants to create a new type of universal media library.

In this day and age, keeping content original and free from copycats is proving to be quite the challenge. While some people may argue imitation is the best form of flattery, that is far from the case for content creators. In fact, there is nothing worse than somebody taking one’s work and claiming it to be theirs after some minuscule modifications.

What Mediachain Does Differently

Mediachain feels they have the power and the concept to address these problems going forward. By letting anyone register, identify, and track creative work on the Internet or through applications, the company is using the blockchain to ensure artists can claim authenticity over created content.

Or to be more precise, this universal media library solution uses content ID technology similar to the one found in Google Image Search and Shazam. Combining this technology with inspiration gained from the Bitcoin blockchain, Mediachain can become quite a powerful platform in the long run.

It is of the utmost importance to keep track of when the content was created and by whom. Every type of material has unique metadata, which can be used to automate attribution and preserve the history of content’s movement. Moreover, Mediachain will also let users run analytics on where and how their content is being used.

So far, there are over two million images and metadata records in the Mediachain content library. This includes content from The Museum of Modern Art, the Digital Public Library of America and Europeana, and Getty Images. The primary purpose of this solution is to improve the efficiency of which content is being used.

One of the main concerns is how, even though the content may go viral, the original creator will never get the attention he or she deserves. Mediachain wants to change all of that, and they will address plagiarism at the same time. Unlike traditional copyright organizations, this startup will not wrest control over the content from its creators.
