Is Crypto Art the only real avant-garde in four decades?

Historically in art, it is often the first makers and starters of a movement whose works will do stellar historically in value. Crypto art has challenged the status quo like no other movement before it, as I will make the case here.

RedEye was among the first works I made entering the space in June 2017. It was about losing the ability to sleep as my brain went on overdrive, trying to learn everything about Bitcoin and decentralisation as fast as possible. The period of insomnia lasted four months and isn’t uncommon in people who fall down the rabbit hole. There was next to no art that had been made about this space back then.

Here is a short video about why the art was made

RedEye is not only significant in terms of when it was produced, what is is about but also what tech it utilizes to achieve telling a story in 2022. The augmented reality animation, that launches with the Artivive app, takes the phygital experience that much deeper. The animation side, which has 4 blocks of the genesis BTC code embedded into it, enhances the story. The artwork will be also verified on Verisart on the BTC chain.

Here is a short video about what is included technically

It can be argued, quite easily, that the artworld has not produced avant-grade art in the past four decades, even if it pretends it. The case is best made by Professor Camille Paglia, a cultural critic in her punchy ‘Art Belongs to Everyone‘ lecture.

The real avant-garde of course, comes with a price. Since the start of the popularisation of NFTs, the corporate and legacy art world train has been attempting to dilute the term and substance of real crypto art. The way I define the term is those artists who came to support the new money movement in themes of it and utilising the technology.

Many will argue that challenging the gender & sexual norms is the hight of the achievements of the artworld lately, but the talking about taking on power structures, nothing like crypto art challenging the central fiat money system and associated power structures has ever likely happened in art before. This will eventually have reflections on the trajectory of the value of those pieces as a store & potential 100x of value.

This is why early crypto art, the makers, and their supporters matter. The real substance has now already been driven back underground from the scene to the degree that most don’t even know it ever existed. Many of us who talk about the real substance, are now arrogantly censored by the platforms Bitcoin & decentralisation made possible.

Hope to see the real cyber hornets at the auction ?
