Over 5,400 Bitcoin Business Now Listed on Coinmap.org

It’s been a while since we’ve taken a look at Coinmap.org. If you’re new to the community or just plain unfamiliar with the site, it allows users to pin bitcoin (and litecoin) businesses on a map — making it simple for users to find bitcoin-friendly businesses near them.

The last time I wrote about Coinmap was back in April, when I noted that over 4,100 businesses were listed on the map.

Today, a quick peak reveals that over 5,400 hundred businesses that are friendly to bitcoin will take the digital currency — which is certainly an improvement, but perhaps not a growth rate one would be surprised about.

What prompted me to look at the map was a post today from itBit discussing the topic of popular bitcoin cities. No surprise, the top two cities are the nation’s most populated: New York, New York and Los Angeles, California.

There’s also scores of bitcoin businesses elsewhere in the world, namely in Europe. It’s interesting to note the heavy concentration said businesses in the Austria/Czech Republic areas.

Africa comes in with the least amount of bitcoin businesses, with the bulk of those businesses being in South Africa.

I should also note that the chart displays 470 litecoin friendly businesses, which is also pretty cool. Obviously, litecoin hasn’t experienced the growth bitcoin has, so it’s important to put things into perspective.
