Bitcoin 2014 Conference in Amsterdam to Host Annual Blockchain Awards

The Bitcoin Foundation today announced on their blog that the first annual Blockchain Awards will be hosted at the Bitcoin 2014 Conference that takes place in Amsterdam from May 15th – May 17th.

The awards are designed to “celebrate innovation and excellence in the Bitcoin community,” with the ceremony that begins on Friday, May 17th at the main deck of the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam.

“The foundation works hard to recognize and advocate for innovation and ingenuity across the Bitcoin community,” said Bitcoin Foundation executive director Jon Matonis. “These awards are a unique opportunity to showcase these accomplishments and celebrate an extraordinary year for Bitcoin.”

Everyone is welcome to nominate people or companies/organizations in ten categories:

Most Impactful Charity, Most Influential Investor, Best Mobile App, Bitcoin Champion, Most Creative Video, Best ATM Design, Bitcoin Legal Expert, Most Informative Podcast, Most Insightful Journalist, and best Academic Paper.

The Foundation  notes that nominations will be accepted from today through May 6th via a nomination form. On May 7th, both the Foundation and Blockchain.info will announce the top three finalists in each category. Instructions for the voting will then be supplied.

“With these awards we hope to take a moment and reflect on the amazing contributions from the bitcoin community. We want to honor the exceptional quality, leadership, and technical innovation we see every day,” said Nic Cary, who heads Blockchain.info

Each category winner winner will receive a 1 BTC prize and will have their award written to the block chain. According to today’s announcement, the award recipient will need to be present to accept the award.
