Bitcoin ATM Hits Australia's Capital City, Canberra

For bitcoin fans living in the Australian Capital City of Canberra, you now have an opportunity to buy and sell bitcoin easily using a newly-launched bitcoin ATM at the RUC at Turner.

RUC at Turner is a join venture between The RUC and Canberra North Bowling Club located on McCaughey St, Turner. According to the operator of the device, Bit2Bit, it’s just a short walk from Civic and the ANU.

But if your interest in cryptocurrency goes beyond just bitcoin, you’re in a bit of luck.

Bit2Bit actually refers to the machine as a CTM, a cryptocurrency teller machine. And given the fact it’s also able to allow users to buy and sell litecoin and dogecoin, it’s aptly named.

Judging by the image we were provided, the machine appears to be a Genesis1 unit, manufactured by California-based Genesis Coin.

“The aim of our company is to move cryptocurrencies into the everyday retail world. Until recently, they have been mostly traded as an investment or seen as a curiosity,” says Alex Hume, Bit2Bit co-founder.

“When Bit2Bit approached us with their CTM we knew it was the right fit for us. We know the importance of keeping up to date with the latest technology and innovations relevant to the club and pub environment – we have a coffee app and provide access to free WiFi,” said Ned Scanlon, who manages RUC@Turner.

“Being located near the ANU means we’re close to tech savvy users, so we hope to see them buying a beer with Bitcoin,” Scanlon added.

Bit2Bit team members will be on hand moving forward to assist users with the device.
