We’re just a few days away from the start of The North American Bitcoin Conference in Chicago, Illinois, and bitcoin enthusiasts from around the world are preparing to descend upon the Windy City to take in all of the digital currency goodness.
But what if you wouldn’t exactly call yourself a fan? What if you know almost nothing about bitcoin but want to try and get more information?
TNABC is apparently an opportunity to do so.
Coinbase and the College Cryptocurrency Network will be presenting a little something they call the Bitcoin Beginners Workshop on July 19th and 20th from 9 am to 11 am.
Hosted by Pamela Morgan, Will Pangman, and David Silva Smith, the event will be open and free to members of the public, and attendees will receive a small amount of bitcoin to get their own hands-on experience with the digital currency.
The idea is to attract those who might be intimidated by bitcoin and how it works, but also to prove that bitcoin is ready for use by the mainstream.
“Six months ago bitcoin wasn’t ready for mainstream. Today it is,” said David Silva Smith.
“Bitcoin is a tool artists, musicians, writers, and other creatives can use to fundraise. It’s a tool students and faculty can use to conduct research across campuses and in a wide variety of disciplines,” said Pamela Morgan, a Chicago-based attorney.
Will Pangman adds: “Bitcoin is still in its infancy, but it’s never been easier to get started, and this free Beginners Workshop is the best opportunity yet for folks who’re curious about it but need some in-person support. There’s still time to get involved before the early majority.”
Here’s a simple run-down of the workshop:
- Users receive a small amount of bitcoin for free, along with a wallet
- Attendees learn to make purchases from bitcoin-accepting retailers
- Attendees learn to donate bitcoin to a charity
- Attendees learn to buy/sell on an exchange
- Attendees will learn to secure and fortify their wallets
