BitPay is quickly becoming one of the fastest-growing companies in the bitcoin space. With recent news they’ve opened offices in Latin America and most recently in New York and San Francisco, they’ve certainly demonstrated their success, and now, they’re bringing a 16-year veteran of the VISA company aboard.
He’s Andy Goldstein, and having spent a good chunk of time at the multinational financial services firm, he’s ready to make his way into the bitcoinosphere, according to Payments Source.
“The Bitcoin space offered technology innovation, flexibility and creativity,” he was quoted as saying on the matter.
Working at Visa, Mr. Goldstein was a senior business development leader in the company’s merchant sales and solutions group. At BitPay, he’ll be taking on the role of a regional sales manager.
And while he’s left a huge company (on good terms) to work for the much-smaller outfit in Atlanta, he says he would have regretted not doing it. Goldstein himself is a cryptocurrency fan, but it’s likely some colleagues wouldn’t understand the move.
“A lot of individuals from the more traditional payment companies do not understand the [Bitcoin] technology and view it as an existential threat, but don’t fully appreciate what it can do for many areas,” he said.
BitPay continues to add more and more merchants to its portfolio. At the company’s last report in mid-March, it was stated that they had surpassed 26,000 approved bitcoin-accepting merchants. [source: Payments Source]
