Further continuing its growth, bitcoin payment processor BitPay announced on Wednesday that they’ve opened their European Headquarters in Amsterdam.

The announcement comes not long following the opening of other company offices, which include New York and San Francisco and Buenos Aires, Argentina. These are in addition to the company’s home office in Atlanta, Georgia.

BitPay’s Amsterdam office will be responsible for handling sales, implementation, and merchant support. The company says they have about 7,000 merchants in Europe at this time, with a goal of acquiring 30,000 merchants by the year’s end.

The office will be home to two employees: Moe Levin and Pieter Poorthuis.

Levin will serve as BitPay’s European Director of Business Development. He speaks five languages, has several years of bitcoin experience, and recently was responsible for organizing bitcoin conferences in Miami and Amsterdam.

Poorthuis will work at a Senior Sales Engineer, having previously manages mobile payment products for ING.

New Board Member

BitPay also announced a new member on the company’s Board of Advisors, Marcel Roelants. Roelants was previously a General Manager at MasterCard in the Netherlands, and was also Managing Director of General Electric in Belgium.

“As the world of payments is changing rapidly, BitPay is at the forefront offering technology and support to merchants,” he said. “Establishing its headquarters in Amsterdam is a great way to be closer to its European customers.”

At this juncture, a total of 33 people are working at BitPay, and at this rate of growth, it looks like they’ll be bringing much more aboard in the near future.

BitPay serves as a popular payment processor for merchants looking to accept bitcoin. The service allows businesses the opportunity to keep their bitcoin or instantly convert it to fiat to minimize volatility risk.
