CoinRX Launches as a Bitcoin Pharmacy – But is it Legal?

CoinRX launched today as “The #1 Bitcoin Online Pharmacy” (interesting proclamation on the first day of business, but we digress), allowing users to buy anything from generic Viagra to generic Prozac using — wait for it — Bitcoins.

This sounds like it may be a derivative of Silk Road, but in fact, the site is accessible outside of anonymous web browsing network Tor. Question: is this even legal? The domain’s WHOIS information traces back to a registrar in Argentina, so the likelihood is that this service is not based in the United States.

We were curious for additional information, but CoinRX did not immediately respond to our inquiry. For now, it should be said that CoinRX isn’t the only bitcoin pharmacy (just run a Google search).

Just as soon as we get more information, we’ll post it here.

Update: The response received from CoinRX (via Reddit) questioning the legality of their operation was met with the following reply: “Every country has different export/import laws and loopholes that allow for certain businesses to be conducted.”
