Using Blockchain In Port Infrastructure
In 2020, the TECNIO Centre EASY research group at the University of Girona joined forces with Aumenta Solutions in an INNOTEC project. The objective was to develop a blockchain-based real-time maintenance system for various sectors.
This ambitious endeavor combined blockchain certification with augmented reality to boost efficiency and traceability in industrial maintenance operations.
In 2023, Aumenta Solutions and MSI have shifted their attention to the vital global port infrastructure market. Valued at $148.1 billion in 2020, this market is projected to reach $243.1 billion by 2030, growing at a CAGR of 4.9% from 2021 to 2030.
Port infrastructure is the foundation for ships, cargo, and passengers transiting through ports. However, port infrastructure expansion and maintenance require significant capital investments, lengthy lead times, and extensive long-term planning.
Jelurida’s Ardor Is A Versatile Stack
The groundbreaking port infrastructure maintenance project Aumenta Solutions and MSI developed employs the Ardor blockchain and AR technology. This innovative platform provides on-site maintenance workers with digital information, such as schematics and maintenance manuals, while certifying user tasks via the Ardor Blockchain.
Pere Roset, Managing Partner at Aumenta Solutions, commented, “The certification program is an essential component of the project, ensuring that maintenance tasks are performed correctly at the right place and at the right time.” In addition, this system allows real-time access to maintenance information, streamlining maintenance tasks and improving overall efficiency.
By enhancing the accuracy and speed of maintenance operations, the technology enables workers to identify and address issues in real time rapidly. The maintenance certification program is a vital aspect of the project, which verifies all tasks are executed on-site and punctually using AR images and the Ardor blockchain.
Ongoing Development And Finetuning
The partnership between Aumenta Solutions, MSI, and Jelurida has the potential to transform the port maintenance industry by increasing efficiency, minimizing downtime, and refining the accuracy of maintenance tasks.
The project is currently in development and expected to launch in the coming months, marking the beginning of a new era in port infrastructure maintenance.
