To revolutionize this state of affairs, Fungiball is emerging in 2023 as a pioneer, creating the very first fantasy tennis league on blockchain entirely dedicated to female athletes.
Thanks to exclusive licensing agreements signed with over 250 professional players, Fungiball is already setting the standard for new-generation fantasy tennis.
But Fungiball has no intention of stopping there. In addition to capitalizing on the immense popularity of tennis, the project aims to promote the place of women in the still very male-dominated Web3 ecosystem.
Unique cards to create your own champion
In concrete terms, Fungiball is a play-to-earn game on the Polygon blockchain that allows players to create their own virtual tennis player avatar. Users collect digital cards representing the real-life skills of professional tennis players.
With over 250 licensed players, including world top 50 players such as Borna Coric and Tallon Griekspoor, Fungiball is the undisputed leader in fantasy tennis.
The concept is based on the famous “Fungiskills” cards, which are NFT, symbolizing the real skills of real players, such as Isner’s devastating serve or Nadal’s champion’s mind.
These cards are divided into 4 categories (Power, Service, Return, Mental) and 3 rarity levels (Silver, Gold, Platinum).
By collecting them, you can assemble the best skills to create your own ultimate tennis champion. Your avatar can then compete in weekly tournaments, with winnings both in the game and in real life: rare cards, MATIC, jerseys, tennis equipment, tickets to major tournaments, and even meetings with tour stars!

Inclusion of female players in web3
In a web3 ecosystem that is still very much male-dominated, Fungiball made its mark by dedicating an exclusive sale to the digital cards of athletes on the women’s circuit. In February 2024, Fungiball organized its first-ever exclusive sale of female player cards, a major first in the tennis-centric Web3 universe. The event featured 34 cards from players in the world’s top 50, including Ekaterina Alexandrova, Emma Navarro, Sofia Kenin and Leylah Fernandez.
The event was a total success, with over 11,000 MATIC sales generated and 1,276 bids recorded in just 48 hours. In all, 15 unique collectors acquired these precious, absolutely rare cards.
On the strength of this resounding success, Fungiball confirms its pioneering status in the promotion of women’s tennis on the blockchain, a hitherto predominantly male universe.
Other renowned champions are expected to join the catalogue soon.
From collection to competition: a skilful blend of virtual and real life
As well as collecting, the cards allow players to take part in weekly tournaments modelled on the real ATP and WTA circuits. Scores are calculated on the basis of champions’ actual performances each week
The best competitors then win rewards both in the Fungiball universe (new cards, cryptocurrencies) and in real life, such as jerseys, tickets to tournaments or even the chance to meet their favorite player!
So, for every week of competition or “gameweek”, the top avatars in each tournament win exclusive prizes. And at the end of the annual season, overall rankings award significant amounts of MATIC, rare NFT and VIP badges to the best players.

A secondary card market
Although the exclusive sale was a success, Fungiball has no intention of stopping there. The platform is preparing to launch a secondary market enabling players to trade and resell their cards.
Thanks to a lifetime royalty system, the first card buyers will automatically receive 0.5% of the revenues generated by each future resale of their card, creating a lasting link between players and athletes. And the referral program will offer free cards to both sponsors and their godchildren, encouraging the recruitment of new members.
With more than 2,000 registered members, 125,000 MATIC in sales volume and almost 3,000 cards sold since its launch in December 2023, and renowned partners such as Polygon, Fungiball has established itself as the benchmark for Fantasy Tennis.
