There’s a world of decentralized apps (dapps) out there just waiting to be explored. These provide access to blockchain-powered games, social networks, trading platforms and much more. To interact with them you require just two things: a crypto wallet and a dapp browser.
Thankfully, these tools are often bundled into a single package, with many crypto wallets now incorporating a browser for discovering and connecting to decentralized applications. The best of these combine good UI with connectivity to a broad range of dapps spanning popular smart contract networks. If you’re seeking a decent dapp browser, the following five wallets with browser integration should be top of your list.
Core
Core is a non-custodial wallet that sports a seedless design and social login. These features make it very easy to get started, with no pesky mnemonic phrase to master. Useful as these provisions are, it’s the additional features Core packs that make it a major contender for dapp browsing. More than 300 dapps are supported including a good many that interact with Avalanche, the blockchain ecosystem Core primarily supports.
Using Core, you can connect to such decentralized applications as Hyperspace for NFTs; Trader Joe for DEX swaps; and BENQI for lending and liquid staking. One of the more compelling reasons to interact with dapps via a wallet such as Core is that the developer vets all of the dapps it supports. This means you can connect to various protocols through Core’s dapp browser with confidence. Core is characterized by an excellent UI, and its dapp browser is no exception, making web3 feel welcoming.
Exodus
Exodus is a popular non-custodial wallet that covers Bitcoin, Ethereum, and many more networks. It also includes a web3 browser that allows you to connect to a good range of dapps. These aren’t just limited to Ethereum either: Exodus supports L2s such as Base, while integrated staking is also available across numerous EVM chains.
Aside from its dapp browser, Exodus’s good design, which permeates both its mobile and desktop wallet, makes it very easy to master. You needn’t have spent a decade in the crypto trenches to find your way around Exodus. In the event of running into trouble, though, Exodus provides excellent customer support. Its wallet and integrated dapp browser are also updated regularly, which is reassuring both from a security perspective and in terms of being able to access quality new dapps.
Argent
Argent is a specialist wallet and dapp browser for a specialist purpose: Starknet. The preeminent wallet solution for exploring Starknet’s zk-based L2, Argent provides a non-custodial gateway to the best dapps Starknet has to offer. This is thanks to a custom dapp explorer known as Dappland, which Argent designed.
After creating an Argent wallet, visit Dappland and you’ll be able to explore a broad range of decentralized applications, broken down into such categories as Onramps, Bridges, DeFi, Games, NFTs, and Social. There’s also a feature for Dapp of the Month and a section that details verified smart contracts that are safe to interact with. The scope of Argent’s dapp support is impressive. If only it served more networks than Starknet.
MetaMask
As one of the oldest and most popular browser extensions for web3, MetaMask needs no introduction. But if you became familiar with MetaMask through installing its web wallet, you may have failed to appreciate the beauty of its mobile wallet, particularly when it comes to dapp discovery. Available for iOS and Google Play, MetaMask Mobile integrates an array of popular Ethereum dapps.
Sites such as OpenSea and Uniswap can be accessed within MetaMask Mobile, while an integrated portfolio checker makes it easy to keep track of your assets. If you’re the sort of DeFi user who still does the bulk of your activity on Ethereum, and occasionally like to ape into memecoins at short notice, MetaMask, with its accompanying dapp browser, is a worthy contender.
Trust
Trust is another heavy hitter when it comes to web3 wallets, boasting over 70M users and a six-year pedigree. Like most wallet developers, Trust has integrated dapps over the years, recognizing that crypto users appreciate the convenience of being able to do all of their onchain activity in one place.
There are integrated swaps with Trust, delivered with the aid of ThorChain, 1inch, Mimic, and Axelar. There’s also integrated staking courtesy of 23 providers and access to popular NFT marketplaces such as OpenSea and Rarible. Trust is a highly capable all-rounder, particularly in terms of the chains and assets it supports. While its dapp support is not as extensive as some of the projects featured above, it’s nevertheless a good wallet for taking your first steps in web3 and connecting to your first dapps.
Which Dapp Browser Is Best?
Determining which dapp brower is best depends to a large extent on which networks you’re trying to access. Many of the wallets and browsers reviewed here are specific to a particular blockchain ecosystem. When rated for user experience and diversity of dapps supported, Core gets the nod. For Starknet, it has to be Argent of course, and MetaMask for Ethereum.
If you’ve yet to explore the latest crop of crypto wallets, particularly those optimized for mobile, check them out. Thanks to better design and greater integration of dapps, it’s now possible to do it all without needing to leave the familiar confines of your favorite wallet.
