Web3 wallet provider XDEFI has rebranded to Ctrl and launched a new non-custodial wallet to make user onboarding and the overall user experience better. This is part of a bigger initiative to make decentralized finance (DeFi) and blockchain more mainstream.
XDEFI to Ctrl
XDEFI has become Ctrl (pronounced “Control”) with the release of a new non-custodial wallet. Emile Dubié, CEO of XDEFI, said self-custody is key in the crypto space and wallet providers must make it accessible and secure. Dubié said Ctrl is to make non-custodial wallets better for the user to explore DeFi and web3.
“I believe self-custody is a fundamental right,” Dubié said. “As a wallet provider, our responsibility is to make it accessible and secure for everyone. People should be able to have full sovereignty over their financial assets without the hurdles associated with traditional crypto wallets.”

We have spent more than a year building a user experience on top of this technical advantage to make our products as intuitive as apps like Revolut. Ctrl is set to be the premier tool for onboarding millions of new users, regardless of their knowledge about crypto.”
Web3 Challenges
Ctrl aims to address the web3 challenges by bringing web2 features, easier onboarding and better user experience. One of the features of the Ctrl wallet is the removal of gas fees on every chain. This will reduce barriers for new users and simplify the web3 experience.
In addition to gas fees removal, Ctrl supports 1,800 networks and many blockchains. This is more than other web3 wallets, giving users more flexibility and access to different blockchain environments.
Security and Accessibility
Ctrl aims to improve security and accessibility by offering social login options (Google or social media) so users don’t have to manage complex seed phrases. This simplifies the authentication process while keeping security standards robust. The wallet also simplifies managing multiple wallets and removes gas tokens, making the user experience even better.
This will make web3 more mainstream for regular users and adoption will be broader. By removing the technical complexity Ctrl wants to be as simple as Revolut.
Beta Launch and Roadmap
The Ctrl wallet is launching in beta in August and early adopters will get to try it out. Users can sign up for the mobile beta waitlist on Ctrl.xyz. Existing XDEFI wallet users and new users who have installed XDEFI will have their wallets auto upgraded to Ctrl when it launches. We will also convert $XDEFI to $CTRL 1:1 in the future so token holders will have a seamless transition.
The beta is a key part of the Ctrl rollout as it allows us to get feedback from early users and make adjustments before the full public launch. By having users participate in the beta we can make sure the final product meets the needs and expectations of our user base.
Improving Wallet Experience
Ctrl is a new direction in non-custodial wallet design, aiming to give users a more simple tool to manage digital assets and interact with DeFi and web3 services across multiple chains.
