Computer Giant Dell Now Accepting Bitcoin on Dell.com

Computer manufacturing giant is taking a bold new step this Friday by announcing they are now accepting bitcoin on their e-commerce website, Dell.com.

The program is a pilot, and will be open to consumers in the United States. The company says the move was made to meet the needs of their customers, and members of the bitcoin community will most certainly be pleased.

The company says they worked with San Francisco-based Coinbase to implement the payment acceptance — a process that took only fourteen days to complete.

“We’ve fostered a close partnership with the Dell team and that’s been instrumental in getting the Coinbase integration up and running in such a short timeframe. We look forward to continuing to support the team as they explore other ways to offer even more functionality when it comes to bitcoin payment,” said Mr. Fred Ehrsam, Coinbase co-founder.

The multi-billion dollar company is a pioneer in the personal computer manufacturing business, and says they’ll be offering a special promotion for customers who elect to checkout with the digital currency.

“We’re really excited to offer bitcoin as a payment option to our customers who are on the forefront of using this digital currency for their technology purchase needs,” said Dell CIO Paul Walsh. “It is always our goal to respond quickly to our customers and ensure their needs are met. Partnering with Coinbase to implement this solution in 14 days is a prime example of the new, more agile Dell.”

Dell says that in the coming days, they’ll be offering an Alienware promotion in which customers can save 10 percent on their order when they pick up an Alienware system (discount offered up to $150).

Dell has set up a dedicated page over at Dell.com/Bitcoin with information on the integration, including a brief primer for those who may not be sure what bitcoin is.

Dell joins the likes of Expedia, Overstock, Newegg, and (soon) DISH Network in gargantuan companies accepting the digital currency.
