By now, it’s no secret in the bitcoin community that the Sacramento Kings (an NBA team for those outside of the United States) has started accepting bitcoin for things like merchandise and ticket sales.
But the teams wants to everyone watching their games know — not just members of the bitcoin community. An image captured by the BitGive Foundation and posted on Twitter shows an ad running during gameplay courtside touting that the Kings are “now accepting bitcoin”.
This sort of public promotion done before is typically an exciting thing for some members of the community. Others aren’t quite impressed:
“Organizations that are performing poorly are discovering if they announce Bitcoin acceptance they get some press,” wrote one user on social sharing website Reddit.
Whatever the case is, it’s clear that scores of eyeballs are seeing that a professional team is accepting a digital currency — and promoting it, too.
Do you think more teams will follow suit?
