The first bitcoin ATM in Australia could be making its debut in a matter of days, according to a report from News.com.au. Two companies are racing to get their machine up and running and set a record in the country.
The first is Bitcoin ATMs, who plans to install their machine at the Pitt Street Mall in Sydney. The company said previously they’d plan to have their machine online “before the end of March”.
The second is Krypto Currency Solutions, who said last Wednesday that their machine — also to be located in Sydney — would be making its debut within two weeks.
Both companies have acquired machines from Las Vegas-based Robocoin, a start-up that’s been experiencing immense growth over the past several months.
Robocoin’s kiosk allows for the selling of fiat for bitcoin and vice-versa, while also scanning a user’s identification to ensure they aren’t surpassing daily limits.
Robocoin’s first bitcoin ATM, which in fact was the world’s first, went live last year in a downtown Vancouver coffee shop.
In the land down under, bitcoin’s popularity has increased significantly – and enthusiasts are likely to be pleased when the kiosks are finally installed.
The mission, however, is to get more people (those unfamiliar) into their first bitcoin experience. With two headed toward Australia’s Eastern coast, people nearby now have the opportunity. [source: news.com.au]
