Hong Kong has finally gotten some bitcoin ATMs, and the first of which is making its debut at the Mr. Bing cafe in the central part of the city, according to a press announcement we received.
Access to the machine opened at 7:30AM local time on Friday, and it will allow users to use traditional fiat currency to purchase bitcoin in a matter of seconds.
Specifically, we’re told that the location of the machine was chosen for maximum visibility, “on the Midlevel escalators.”
The Lamassu-made ATM is being operated by Bitcoin Group HK, a five-member team, each who have been long-term residents of Hong Kong.
“The venture began as a group of bitcoin-enthusiasts seeking a venture opportunity, and has blossomed into an incredible opportunity that will take advantage of the rapidly expanding currency known as bitcoin,” the announcement read.
Another bitcoin ATM made its debut in Hong Kong today, as well. Dubbed ANXBTC, the ATM opened just a little later than Bitcoun Group HK’s.
“As far as we are aware the launch for ANXBTC will also be later on the 14th. We received an email from them on Mondayannouncing their opening. However, their location is in a high rise and ours is on one of the most central streets in Hong Kong,” a company spokesperson told newsBTC. “We are expecting a high volume of traffic today.”
Bitcoin Group HK hopes to continue expanding their ATM assets in the coming months.
