Japan Gets Its First Robocoin Bitcoin ATM

A Robocoin bitcoin ATM has reached the shores of Japan.

The device has reportedly been delivered to 49-year-old Motonori Kan in Suzuka, a city some 200 miles west of Japan’s capital, Tokyo.

Kan, in preparation for the delivery, obtained a used-goods dealer license and imported the device as a “vending machine”, despite the fact it’s so much more.

Despite the delivery, it’s not exactly available for public use at a certain location yet.

Mr. Kan’s ultimate plans are to make his company (a trading company he runs with his brother) the importer of Robocoin ATMs in Japan. The locations of the devices, he says, depend entirely on who they find as partners.

“As a trading company, we are also always searching interesting items to import to Japan,” he said to the Wall Street Journal, as he attempts “to be a part of one of the biggest inventions in history.”

And with more units ordered, the Mr. Kan and his brother are expecting more deliveries in the near future.

Interestingly, though, Kan admits to not knowing a terrible lot about the device.

“We have never touched the unit, so we do not know all the details. Our working knowledge is only via literature from Robocoin and YouTube videos. When the unit arrives, we will study it thoroughly, and quickly!” he said.

Kan and his brother, Yoshinori, are imagining the possibility of driving around Japan this summer with the Robocoin ATM in the rear of an RV.

According to Las Vegas-based Robocoin, this device is the 14th to be shipped. The first Robocoin ATM made its debut in a Vancouver coffee shop in late 2013.
