LocalBitcoins.com Begins Accepting Orders For Bitcoin ATM Product

You may recall that earlier this year (February, to be precise), bitcoin buying/selling matchmaker LocalBitcoins.com announced they were working on a bitcoin ATM project.

There was even a first batch available, but now, the service is taking orders for their newer-looking device, which LocalBitcoins says does not require an internet connection.

With a 30-note recycler and capable of holding 300 notes, the ATM probably isn’t ready for use in high-traffic areas, and it’s really not that aesthetically pleasing, either.

The LocalBitcoins teams does add that the ATM is upgradeable, and they’re constantly working on new features, so whether or not that’s enough to convince you to get one is something you will have to decide.

The 15 kg machine will run you  €1500 in addition to VAT if you’re in the European Union.

The company writes:

[blockquote style=”2″]We have been testing two ATM’s in Helsinki for about four months and they have been functioning well. Development has been going on simultaneously and we have pretty much dealt with all the minor issues we’ve encountered during the test period. We have simple, fast and reliable product that end users have fallen in love with.[/blockquote]

The two aforementioned ATMs have handled a volume of about 300 bitcoins with a 5-8% fee. According to LocalBitcoins, they have paid back for themselves in just a few months.
