NASDAQ-Listed Eyewear Company Coastal.com to Soon Begin Accepting Bitcoin

Yet another large online retailer is announcing their support for bitcoin payments. This time around it’s the folks at Coastal.com, a NASDAQ-listed eyewear company established in 2000.

The company announced Tuesday plans to begin accepting bitcoin in the next few months, making them the first major eyewear company in the space to do so.

“As an e-commerce company, we’re excited to see digital currency gaining momentum,” says Roger Hardy, CEO of Coastal.com. “We’re continuously looking for new innovative approaches in order to best service our customers.”

The company — like Overstock.com — is planning to work with a digital currency payment processor like BitPay or Coinbase, but is neglecting to mention who it is, exactly.

A genuine interest in bitcoin, or a ride on the PR train?

It’s no doubt that lots of companies are jumping aboard the “we take bitcoin” train for the main reason it’ll get them press attention, but according to Coastal.com’s VP of web sales Braden Hoeppner, “We want to offer our customers the ability to choose whichever payment method is most convenient for them.”

Coastal.com cites customer requests as a reason for the integration.
