Newegg Now Accepting Payments From Customers in Canada

The day is finally here for electronics fans residing in Canada. California-based Newegg announced this morning that they are now accepting bitcoin payments from Canadian customers effective immediately.

The announcement comes just under two months after Newegg began accepting bitcoin from customers in the United States.

With thousands of products in a slew of categories to choose from, our friends to the North can spend their digital money as recklessly as they wish on anything from a home computer to a refrigerator.

“Newegg is deeply committed to growing its business internationally – serving customers overseas, introducing new products from key Asian markets and evolving the way we transact with our global customer base,” said Soren Mills, who heads marketing for Newegg’s North American operations. “Extending bitcoin acceptance to our Canadian customers is yet another important milestone as we build the company’s international presence.”

As is the case for sales in the United States, Atlanta, Georgia-based BitPay is processing payments on behalf of Newegg Canada, allowing the company to instantly convert the digital currency to local currency.

“BitPay is very excited to help facilitate bitcoin payment acceptance for Newegg’s Canadian customers,” said Tony Gallippi, BitPay CEO. “The expansion demonstrates Newegg’s strong commitment to bitcoin and recognition of crypto-currency as a growing and important payment option for online retailers.”

A welcome promotion

As a celebration of sorts for the acceptance, Newegg will be running a promotion for shoppers on both Newegg.com and Newegg.ca. From August 26-27 in Canada, and from August 30-September 1 in the United States.

Customers paying with bitcoin will receive a discount of $75 on purchases over $300, and $150 on purchases over $500.

It remains unknown how much Newegg has brought in worth of bitcoin sales since accepting the digital currency at the beginning of last month.
