Nymi's Bitcoin Wallet Uses Heart Rhythm to Allow Access to Funds

Nymi ECG Wallet

In establishing this website, one of my goals was to feature new products that make us all go wow. Here we have one of these very products. It’s called Nymi, and this Toronto-based company has designed a bitcoin wallet that relies on not keys or password, but your unique heart rhythm to allow access to stored funds.

The wallet comes in the form of a wristband with a built-in electrocardiogram sensor to enhance security.

“People don’t know where their Bitcoin funds are stored, and who can access them. The Nymi’s wallet application makes the answer clear: the wallet is physically stored on the Nymi,” said Yevgeniy Vahlis, chief cryptographer at Bionym — the company behind Nymi. “The Nymi’s multi-factor system, including its ECG biometric, ensures secure Bitcoin storage tied to the rightful owner.”

President of Bionym, Andrew D’Souza said “Every Nymi will ship with the most secure Bitcoin wallet – it could be the killer app.”

Users can pre-order the wallet on the Nymi website for $79 (for the first 25,000 orders). After that, the price will increase to $99. Shipping starts in early 2014 — no exact date specified. (via Forbes)
