Saskatoon Gets its First Bitcoin ATM

Canada is certainly establishing itself as the Mecca of bitcoin ATMs. From the launch of the world’s first two-way ATM in Vancouver to the establishment of a bitcoin ATM manufacturer in Ottawa, if you want to talk bitcoin ATMs, Canada’s your place.

And now Saskatoon, Saskatchewan is getting their very own ATM, according to local reports. The launch happens today.

Operated by Edmonton-based Bitcoin Solutions, the machine — as one would expect — allows users to insert fiat in exchange for bitcoin at the current exchange rate.

“Traditionally, bitcoin has been very lengthy and tedious to get your hands on,” said Bitcoin Solutions owner Adam O’Brien. “It’s such a beautiful way of sending money worldwide, but to actually get that bitcoin unless someone is sending it to you is very difficult. A bitcoin ATM lets you insert your cash into this teller machine and you receive bitcoin instantly.”

Why Saskatoon? According to O’Brien, it’s all about the younger demographic.

Canada, by far, seems to have the most bitcoin ATM installations from manufacturers the likes of Lamassu, BitAccess, and Robocoin.

Other cities with bitcoin ATMs include Edmonton, Montreal, Quebec, Toronto, and more.
