Spiko Reports $2.38B in SAFO as Tokenized Cash Funds Reach Business Treasuries

Spiko has reported $2.38 billion in the Spiko Amundi Overnight Swap Fund, or SAFO, highlighting the growing role of tokenized investment products in business cash management. The figure appears in an October 29 issuer announcement using data as of October 23.

The release promotes a ranking against other tokenized funds. A more useful starting point for readers is the dated asset figure and the product’s structure, because fund comparisons depend on the assets included, valuation dates and definitions being used.

Cash management is a specific investment job

A business managing spare liquidity usually wants more than the highest advertised return. It also needs to know when money can be accessed, how much value may change and whether the records fit its accounting processes.

A fund can provide a way to invest that liquidity, but it is not the same legal relationship as leaving money in a deposit account. The investor owns shares whose rights and risks are defined by the fund documents.

Spiko provides a prospectus and currency-specific key information documents. Those are the relevant materials for examining the product, rather than assuming the label “cash” removes investment or counterparty risk.

The return comes from the investment structure

SAFO’s stated approach uses a securities portfolio and total return swaps to target an overnight rate plus a spread. Its tokenized shares record an interest in that fund; the blockchain is not the source of the underlying investment return.

That distinction helps separate two claims often combined in tokenization discussions. One concerns the economics of an investment. The other concerns how ownership is recorded, transferred and connected to other systems.

A more convenient ownership record could improve distribution or servicing without changing the risk of the portfolio. Conversely, a different portfolio structure could change investment risk even if the token interface looks familiar. The two layers need to be assessed separately.

Redemption is where the cash-management promise is tested

A company may hold an investment for several weeks and then need part of the balance for payroll or a supplier invoice. At that point, the relevant outcome is the availability of spendable money, not the speed at which a fund token changes hands.

Instant withdrawal features can be useful, but limits, currencies and operating conditions matter. A service that can handle a modest withdrawal immediately may follow another process for a larger request. The published terms determine which situation applies.

This is why reliable treasury planning depends on ordinary details: the redemption cycle, the destination account, any cutoffs and the procedure for an exceptional request. A product becomes useful when those details are predictable enough to incorporate into the company’s daily operations.

Network activity needs careful interpretation

The issuer reports a substantial portion of SAFO’s records on Stellar. That shows where shares are represented; it should not be treated as a matching amount of cash invested in Stellar’s native asset.

Similarly, a large tokenized fund can grow through new investors, existing customers adding balances or money moving between products. Those routes have different implications for adoption. Asset size is informative, but it does not explain the entire source of demand.

The next useful evidence is how consistently investors subscribe, redeem and use the product across ordinary and stressed conditions. A business treasury product earns its place through dependable servicing as much as through a headline asset total.

Spiko’s update provides a concrete sign that tokenized fund shares are attracting meaningful balances. The durable story is whether that digital ownership model makes regulated cash-management products easier to operate, while keeping their investment terms and liquidity conditions clear.
