By now, the majority of the bitcoin community (and in turn our users) will be well aware of the ongoing trial of reported Silk Road founder and operator Ross Ulbricht. There have been some interesting revelations to date, including suggestions that MtGox founder Mark Karpeles (not Ulbricht) was the real driving force behind the site. With this in mind, here at newsBTC we know that our readers would love to stay abreast of what is happening on a day-to-day basis. For an individual, this can be costly – as daily transcripts of the trial can cost up to $80 apiece and more. As ever, however, the bitcoin community has come up with an ingenious solution to spreading this cost. I was looking through the bitcoin subreddit and stumbled across this user and his proposition.
A brief synopsis:
Based on some positive feedback regarding ordering the Silk Road trial transcripts, I am going to run an experiment to order today’s Ulbricht transcript… I am going to try to utilize /u/changetip to facilitate this… The total estimate for transcript related costs was around $240 for the last 4 days (200 pages at $1.20 per page). Since the page count per day is not predictable, I am setting the tipping point to $80 per day, and will roll over the previous days funds and adjust accordingly as the trial progresses.
I thought it was well worth publicising so here we go. Take a look, and if you agree, get involved!
