Warner Bros. Records Artist Mastodon to Accept Bitcoin

Atlanta, Georgia-based digital currency payments processor BitPay has announced a partnership with Warner Bros. Records artist Mastodon to accept bitcoin for the band’s new album Once More ‘Round the Sun dropping on the 24th of June.

The move makes Mastodon the first major label musical act to accept bitcoin through BitPay’s processing services.

The band, which is described as “one of the most successful hard rock bands of the past decade, both critically and commercially” will be accepting the digital currency through their official website here: mastodonrocks.com/bitcoin.

“We’re excited to work with fellow Atlanta-natives BitPay for our new album,” says Mastodon in a statement. “We want to give our fans as many options to buy our new album as possible, and are happy that bitcoin can be one of those choices.”

“BitPay is honored to partner with Warner Bros. Records artist Mastodon,” said BitPay co-founder and Executive Chairman Tony Gallippi.

Bitcoin and music

Mastodon isn’t the first musical act to turn to recognize bitcoin as a means of payment for their work.

Last year, Snoop Dogg (otherwise known as Snoop Lion as of late) joked about accepting bitcoins for his newest album (he even asked to be contact by BitPay to “make this happen”), and former Spice Girl-turned-solo artist Mel B even began accepting the digital currency for her single last year.

But most recently (last week, in fact), famous hip-hop artist 50 Cent began accepting bitcoin for his new album called Animal Ambition.

As the music business continues its journey throughout this digital world, many artists are discovering that accepting bitcoins via digital currency simply makes sense.

The transactions are seamless, quick, and excessive fees charges by traditional payment processors aren’t a factor.
