Here’s an interesting start-up that involves Bitcoin. A new start-up website dubbed CoinMD allows users to submit their questions to medical professionals for advice. If a user finds a response from the doctor useful, they can pay the service in Bitcoins.
The site is still in beta, though, so it’s anyone’s guess as to how this payment model will evolve during further development of the site.
CoinMD says their website is suitable for individuals without access to healthcare, those who are uninsured (take that, Obamacare), and those who really don’t trust their primary practitioner and want a second opinion from a stranger on the web.
Regarding the topic of whether or not the person replying to your questions is actually a doctor, CoinMD says all questions are open to the public, so if you get a not-so-correct answer, there will probably someone else to correct it. In the future, the service hopes to put together a verification system to make sure the doctors are, well, qualified.
Recommended payments for answered questions are $10, says CoinMD on their website. The service takes a commission (and donating some to charity), and the rest goes to the doctor who answered your question.
