RTS-MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) game Beyond the Void has joined forces with crowdfunding platform OpenLedger to build a new funding series for what is being touted as the “world’s first MOBA game ICO.” The crowdfund campaign will begin on November 1 for which users can begin to order Nexus, Beyond the Void’s official cryptocurrency.

The game is free to play, and its respective system will be based off the Etherum blockchain (arguably the first gaming platform to feature this technology). Creators are looking to build an environment where players own and control their surroundings as much as developers do in what has been referred to as a “gaming democracy” of sorts. Executives are also looking to add value to their systems by burning Nexus tokens over time and creating scarcity, thereby increasing overall competition amongst players in the future.

The scenario can also develop a new level of trust between gamers and technicians. By having control over their own ecosystems, gamers have the opportunity to feel safer and more open to joining gaming communities and becoming more involved.

Company founder Maxence Burgel explains:

“The game is designed to be competitive and playable in E-sport tournaments. We believe players should play because they like the game and they have fun playing it. We don’t want people to have to pay in order to enjoy the game.”

Creators ultimately believe that in making the game free to play, they can grow their list of supporters over time, making Nexus even more valuable and stimulating token sales, leading to further revenue for the company. Players will have complete control over their assets, allowing them to trade, purchase and sell as they please.

The system is also looking to compete with names like DOTA 2 and League of Legends. Multiplayer gaming has increased by nearly 25 percent in just the last year alone, with the majority of players stationed in East Asia, and revenue from said gaming is likely to reach $500 million or more by the end of 2016.
