The folks over at SQ1.tv (which is pronounced as square one — an online television network) released their bitcoin documentary entitled The Bitcoin Phenomenon on Tuesday months in advance of the originally-planned June 2014 debut.
“We were working on our Bitcoin story as a part of SQ1.tv’s launch in June. Based on the news cycle, the story was too timely for us not to release it immediately,” said Bhu Srinivasan, SQ1.tv’s founder. “Our story dives into the politics of Bitcoin: The conflict we saw pits the early adopters with highly libertarian leanings vs. the VCs and entrepreneurs that are eager to embrace government regulation.”
The film, 35-minutes in length, is free to view (embedded above) and takes a look at the founding of bitcoin, how bitcoin came to gain value, early-adoption, and the journey of bitcoin into mainstream.
“We were able to get very candid perspectives on this war within Bitcoin. It’s the Wall Street/Silicon Valley establishment vs. the movement. We got very lucky. We didn’t realize when we were filming just how relevant our story was going to be. This is the central story of Bitcoin in 2014,” said Srinivasan.
The film features interviews with well-known entities in the bitcoin community: Gavin Andresen, Peter Vessenes, Erik Voorhees, Trace Mayer, Jeremy Liew, Fred Ehrsam, and Angela Keaton.
“Bitcoin touches technology, mathematics, politics, economics, the CIA, the NSA, drugs, gambling, Silicon Valley, Wall Street, along with an unknown founder that inspires cultish reverence…rarely does a phenomenon touch so many topics,” said Srinivasan. “The politics are by far the most important and interesting aspect of Bitcoin.”
