1-800-FLOWERS.com to Begin Accepting Bitcoin Later This Year

If the news this morning that popular electronics retailer Newegg has started accepting bitcoin isn’t enough, another major online business is joining in on the fun.

1-800-FLOWERS.com, a leading florist and gift shop, announced on Tuesday that they have plans to begin accepting bitcoin later this year some time during the Autumn season.

What this means for consumers is that shoppers will be able to use the revolutionary digital currency not only at 1-800-FLOWERS.com, but across the entire network of the company’s gift websites, which includes: FannieMay.com, Cheryls.com, ThePopcornFactory.com, 1-800-Baskets.com, FruitBouquets.com, and Stockyards.com.

“As a customer centric company, we are always looking for new ways to engage with our customers and enhance their shopping experience for all of their celebratory occasions,” said 1-800-FLOWERS.com Founder and CEO Jim McCann. “Bitcoin, together with our other payment options, offers our customers another highly convenient way to help them deliver smiles to the important people in their lives.”

The company calls itself “a leading retail and ecommerce innovator in adopting the use of new technologies that enhance customer engagement,” adding that they were the first company to conduct a transaction on America Online. They were also the first company in the floral industry to introduce a mobile gift center.

In order to make the bitcoin transactions a success, 1-800-FLOWERS.com has partnered up with San Francisco-based Coinbase, which will allow them to instantly convert all bitcoin revenues to United States dollars.

This is yet another big score for Coinbase in terms of bringing a major company aboard. Recently, DISH Network announced they too would be accepting bitcoin in partnership with Coinbase.

Exact dates of debut have not been released, but we’ll obviously have more information on this as it becomes available.
