If there’s one thing the bitcoin community can credit Leah McGrath Goodman with, it’s that she stands behind what she does.
Goodman, of course, is the author of the supremely controversial piece that aimed to expose the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, bitcoin’s anonymous creator.
Her story took her to Southern California, where her piece exposed the name and address of a man who has fervently denied being who she says he is.
As one would expect, just hours following the publication of the story, Goodman appeared on video (with a number of news outlets) to defend and speak about her investigation. And now that over a week has passed, the community is finally cooling down. And Goodman? Still defending her story.
In a post allegedly made on her Facebook account (according to BetaBeat), Goodman thanked those who have checked up on her.
“I have learned this about the fanatical Bitcoiners: they will see this all in a different light once they reach puberty,” she wrote.
Goodman noted that she is currently staying with a friend and “brushing up” on her shooting skills by night.
“I am not feeling physical fear, but there have been some serious threats. (Nice community, the Bitcoiners.),” she added.
Noticeably missing from the post: any indication of regret from publishing potentially incorrect information.
So we turn it over to you. Do you think there will ever be a retraction on the Nakamoto story from Newsweek? [source of screenshot: BetaBeat]
So she went and hid after she was doxxed by a bunch of pre-pubescent bitcoiners, but it’s OK to doxx Dorian and tell people he’s sitting on a pile of money. Watching her defend this by using these derogatory inferences on social media leads one to think she is a selfish, unprofessional individual that could use a dose of puberty herself.
I’m glad they scared the crap out of her. Maybe she’ll think a bit next time before dumping on someone’s life so she can get a story that looks increasingly as if it was wrong in the first place.
And, no, Newsweek will not retract. There’s no way to prove he’s not the right guy, right up until someone else were to step up and say ‘I am the guy’ and proves it. Seeing as they seem in no danger of that, and it’s obvious they care more about the hype than the truth, there’s no reason to retract.
She has no credibility and can move forward with a career that will always be defined by getting the wrong guy.
I was thinking they could temporarily lock Dorian in a room somewhere, while the real Satoshi started posting and carying on a coonversation signed by a PGP private key that only he has, but then they would just claim that Dorian gave Satoshi’s key to someone else…
an irresponsible person is as they do
poor lady’s life has been turned upside down after she turned someone else’s upside down for her career booster… poor poor poor leah
Are we supposed to feel sorry for her?
She’s lucky she has only screwed with an (alleged) bitcoiner, and not for example with some Mexican drug cartel kingpin.
It appears that she is seriously fucking nuts…
“potentially incorrect information” ? SHE NEVER SHOWED ANY PROOF AND DOESN’T HAVE ANY. fuck, i never write in allcaps, but this time I had to.
I agree: we seem to care less about tabloid journalism when we grow up.
She still has a long way to fall…
I just love the evidence she used. “You’re the creator of Bitcoin! Prove you aren’t or it’s true!”
Hahaha WHAT. Is this real?
Did you guys know she was banned from the UK and Jersey? She says it`s because they wanted to hide the child abuse she was doing a story on, but no doubt it was because she was using the same kind of snooping and stalking tactics she used with Dorian.
here are more than a few examples of why this was a pathetic unworthy piece of journalism.. http://www.mikehearn.com/Hosted-Files/Nakamoto-Could-Newsweek-Have-Known/index.html
Is it me or does ”she ” look transgender?
Leah isn’t fooling anyone on her level of regret over this. Would You endanger an innocent mans life again? Oh hell yea? Wait until you hit adulthood Leah, then we’ll see what you have to say. Using such emotive descriptions to describe an entire community.. That rings of what drives racism.
Hey Horseface, quit stealing quotes from Max Keiser !
Above and below: comments from cultists.
Her “piece” is pure defamation. “Investigative journalism” my crack. If the guy had enough money to sue her ass, she’d be thrown in jail. In any case, someone should sue her and the magazine.
